National Anthem

I was asked to sing the South African National Anthem at Maritzburg Varsity Rugby Club's Centenary Day a few weeks ago. Unlike poor Ard Matthews, I was fortunate enough to remember all my words :) If you don't know our beautiful anthem guys, take the time to learn it so you can sing it proudly!

Mandela Day :)

So it's Mandela Day on the 18th of July....that is this coming Monday....and in an effort to do our bit, Niki Ogilvie (you may know her for her DELICIOUS cupcakes @myfavouritecupcake) and I are planning to do our bit by hosting a little event for the kids at the Durban Children's Home. 

We are going to be there with cupcakes, goodie bags and music from 3:00pm until 4:00pm next Saturday.

For the moment, our plan is very simple...Go to the home, hand out some cupcakes and goodie bags and just spend some time hanging out with the kids. If you have ideas on how we could make this day even more special for the kids (there are about 100 of them, all different ages), please give me a shout so that we can arrange it.

We are looking forward to showing the kids some love, and we really hope that you will join us! :)

Sun City Group Performances

For the group performances in City, we chose to perform our version of Lady Antebellum's Need you now. Wow we had SO much fun on stage! It felt amazing to be up there. We all got along really well as a group, and went through some hilarious moments together. Courtney's shoe broke about 20mins before we were due to go on stage, and we ran around laughing madly trying to fix it! Eventually one of the Idols crew members saved the day with a tube of super glue! Good times. If you missed our performance, you can catch it here - IDOLS GROUP PERFORMANCES :) Enjoy x x x

Wedding Celebration - ♥ James & Megan Kidd ♥

I had the honour of singing at very good friends James & Megan Kidd's wedding this wknd. What a beautiful day, and such a special wedding. James, you looked dashing! And Meg, you looked absolutely gorgeous! I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together...you truely deserve it :)

Gig at Billie the Bums

An old friend of mine who plays in the Durban based band Shotgun Frunt called me up and asked me to do a set with them at Bille the Bums. It turned out to be such an awesome evening. The pub was packed and vibey, and the music went down really well! So thanks for the invite guys :) And a very special thank you to all my friends who pulled in to support me, especially Faura and Ugga who came all the way from the Eastern Cape!! You guys made my night :)

Function for Hay & Scott Attorneys

My very good friend (and amazing musician) Derrick Zuma and I were hired to do the entertainment at a cocktail party hosted by Hay & Scott Attorneys in Pietermaritzburg. What a fun event! We stopped playing halfway through the evening to admire the lunar eclipse - Beautiful! And then we continued the festivities untill the early hours of the morning. Who knew lawyers could be such party animals! ha ha..met some really cool people. I now know where to turn if I ever run into any legal trouble :)

Varsity Cup

Kalvin Trautman (Media Photographer) sent me this pic of me singing the National Anthem at the Varsity Shield home game. What an awesome experience! The crowd was so supportive, and I got goosebumps while I was standing up there singing! Really hope I'll be able to do it again at a Springbok game one day :)

South African National Anthem - Varsity Shield

Hey guys, I'm singing the National Anthem at the Varsity Shield home game this Monday the 28th March 18:30pm at Peter Booysen Stadium, Pietermaritzburg. The game kicks off at 7pm - UKZN IMPI vs CUT. Please come support me...and BACK YOUR BOYTJIES! :)

Haylea Hounsom at the Snooty Fox

I will be singing at Fern Hill tomorrow night between 7pm and 9pm (it's in Hilton for those who don't know).  The  restaurant cafe is called the Snooty Fox...quaint little place, great for dinner and a drink on a Friday night...see you there! :)

St Paddy's Day with Luyt Lager

I'll be at Primi Piatti in Ballito for the Luyt Lager St Paddy's Day celebration on the 17th of March.  Entrance is free and there will be lots of awesome prizes given away...all you have to do is come down and enjoy a beer or two.

Idols Auditions

It's 6.15am and I'm 500-and-something in the queue outside Moses Mobida Stadium, waiting for the Idols Season 7 auditions to kick off! I'm far too tired to be nervous, and really excited for my friend Niki to arrive a little later in the morning with coffee and cupcakes :)

I've prepared Ain't no Sunshine to sing for the judges...I'm going to be playing it on guitar.  But I've also prepared a backup song, knowing that (from previous seasons) Randal seems to hate anything written before the year 2010...and that song is Bruno Mars - I wanna be a billionaire! (appropriate, don't you think ;)

So...watch this space...Haylea Hounsom - next South African Idol in the making!!

Luyt Lager - Gig at the Balito Brewery

I'm singing at the Luyt Larger Brewery in Balito this Friday the 25th February. It's going to be a really cool evening, filled with good music, good beer, and lots of fun events like Sumo suit wrestling and beer pong! Bring your friends and family and come have a tour of the brewery, and relax after a long week.

Birthday Cake :)

Best thing about birthdays is the cake! My friend Niki baked me these gorgeous cupcakes...yum! 

And my sister-in-law made me this beautiful music note chocolate cake! I didn't want to eat it, it was too cute. But we got over it, and then we did ;)
